Okinawa Kan Goju Ryu Karate Do New Zealand is group of independent dojo that work cooperatively together to preserve and promulgate the traditional martial arts of Okinawa throughout New Zealand.

The group was founded by Murray Simpson, Penny Cheketri and Sennen Harry as a means of providing instruction and certification in traditional Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate and Ryukyu Kobujutsu as taught by Kiichi Nakamoto Hanshi (Gojuryu Okinawakan Karate-do Kyokai and Ryukyu Dento Kobujutsu Hozon Budo Kyokai).

Each are direct students of and are directly registered as Shibu Dojo Instructors of Kiichi Nakamoto Hanshi with full license to teach and grade.

Okinawa Kan Mission: 

To preserve and teach the traditional martial arts of Okinawa in a caring and nurturing environment .  We seek to foster a spirit of fellowship and understanding by welcoming all like-minded individuals regardless of gender, ethnic background, religion, national origin, or physical handicap.

Okinawa Kan Vision:

Build healthy minds, bodies and spirits through the study of traditional martial arts.

Membership/Affiliation:

Okinawa Kan has no hierarchical structure we treat all dojo instructors the same regardless of Dan Grade.  We simply wish to work together for mutual benefit of promoting and teaching traditional martial arts of Okinawa.

Other like minded dojo/instructors who practice Goju Ryu Karate or Ryukyu Kobujutsu are welcome to join or just work with our group.  Membership/affiliation cannot be granted without first evaluating technique and ensuring good character.  For more information contact us at admin@okinawakan.co.nz.
